    Backfiring through the carb indicates a timing issue, in that it is too far advanced. So the mixture is being ignited while the inlet valve is still open. Backfiring through the exhaust is the opposite and its too retarded so igniting while the exhaust valve is open. If only for peace of mind, it may...

    If they are the same as the Maestro, they maybe an NLA item. When I was doing mine back in 2018 I managed to find one for the front and had to use a claret coloured one and then cover it with vinyl tape for the rear

    Have you checked the state of the plugs during this episode? They can tell you a lot about the mixture. If you check them after a cranking and no running phase and they are wet then this indicates an ignition fault of some sort. In addition if they are black and covered in soot, the mixture is too rich,...

    I used builders caulk on mine, but it really depends on how bad (as in deep or wide) the crack is. Basically you need to drill small holes at each end of the vinyl split to stop it spreading further, remove any vinyl that is standing proud of the surface and then using a small spatula fill the crack...

    Damned key bounce! I've corrected my original post. Thanks for the spot. The Rimmers site, I think, has a wholesale supercession to the newer number. So will only be the the Bay of E where you could still find the version we need. Basically previously used is now the only way to go....
