Source for pistons

I have just been informed by the company doing the engineering work on my engine, that they are struggling to source some +010 pistons for the O series engine. Does anyone here know of anyone who may have these available?

Also, I haven't seen anyone selling big-end bearings in regrind sizes. Again does anyone know if these are around (I'll admit I have checked Rimmers - its the next thing I'm doing!)

Might you get away with a light hone and a set of new standard pistons & rings? If so, I've a set going begging (cheap).

Thanks for the offer David, and that is what we had originally hoped for but the lip at the top of the bore is too much. I had hoped that +010 would be enough, but the standard piston oversize is +020 so I guess that it will be the same with turbo ones - if they are about!!!

I like your thinking Mike. TBH, I was wondering about that as I wrote the reply to him. I'll raise it with the engineering company tomorrow and see what the possible cost could be......

hi ya, a mate of mine has a brand new set of pistons for a O-series his names Stephen Collins if you need i can pm you his number i think he wanted as close as £140 for the set

Bottom end bearings only came in 1 size though, if your crank needs more than a polish then you have no real option but to source another.

I know we have 2 or 3 new sets not sure what E_T_Vs intentions are with them.

Countrydude - thanks for that heads up. With all these difficulties about what can be repaired and replaced I'm beginning to wonder if I should be looking for another engine

If you go a different route, we have about 3 spare blocks & cranks etc. You'd need to PM EVO AL as he'll know condition etc.

From rover they came in only one size, but from aftermarket undersizes were available.

When I rebuilt my engine last year it was cheaper £75 for a new t series turbo crankshaft with all the new bearings still in the sealed Rover box.I got this from e-bay and was so pleased i got another One as a spare for my spare block in case i ever need to build it Back up as a spare engine

As I'm still getting used to the similarities and differences between these later (to me) engines, are you saying that the T series bottom end is the same as the O series?

With my search for pistons getting a tad frustrating although I still have a "couple of irons in the fire" I was wondering how much commonality there was between the Turbo pistons and those fitted to the M and T series engines. Knowing now that the bottom end is identical does the same hold for these?
