  • Van rear wheels

The rear wheels on my Ledbury van don't sit in the middle of the wheel arch, I never noticed it until today, but it's about 2" closer to the front, I've removed the U bolts and checked that the rear axle is fitted on the location pin on the leaf springs and it is so I'm at a bit of a loss, are the locating pins central on the leaf springs , if not could the springs be the wrong way round ? Any suggestions. Thanks Paul

Mine are both nearer the front than the back, the one with 13" wheels is about 1 1/2" different, the one on 15" wheels is just about 3/4" nearer the front...yours looks as though it is nearer than mine, but also looks to be sitting higher, is it a 700 with 14" wheels? and does it look better with a load in?

I think it's a 500 as I thought that's what all Ledbury vans were, doesn't say on V5 however. It does sit ridiculously high, I've got some 2" lowering blocks somewhere I'm gonna stick them on see if makes it look more central

The vin plate should have axle weights on, which will tell you if it is 500 or 700, (unless somebody has fitted 700 springs of course!)...lowering blocks will help if ride height is too high, but probably won't centralise the wheels, as the spring arch will still be the same, if it is suffering from over stiff springs I've got some standard 500 springs on a van that I would be quite happy to swap, if you like, because I'm rebuilding a Tandy camper which I think would be better with stiffer springs, as it is a fair bit heavier than an empty van. I guess the only way to tell which springs are on would be to measure the thickness of the leaves.

As weight is added to the van they wheels become more central in the arch. (Spring is fixed pivot at the front but moving pivot at the rear). Perfectly normal.

Thanks for the replies, due to work commitments I haven't had time to do anything with the van hopefully next week I'll have chance to nip down to the lockup and have a look.
