Rear boot floor area rust

This has been discovered on removing the (plastic) rear bumper from my 88 MG.

Has anyone come across this before, and should I be trying to track down a spare wheel well panel or similar?

Very very common and a most popular area to rot out.
look for a plastic bumper model being broken and ask for that area.

I will be having these panels made hopefully in the next few months

Interesting, keep us posted. My bodywork man is going to fabricate a repair but it'll be interesting to see how good it is.
