I've done the water pump on the green efi today, is it a self bleeding cooling system? Or is there a certain way to do it?
Ta
Start engine.
Heater full on with fan at full blast, fill expansion tank slowly.
Once full, squeeze the top and bottom hoses alternately. Once warm check the heat is coming out of the heater and the rad is warm top to bottom when the thermostat opens.
When you're sure there is no air in the system, replace expansion tank cap and leave ticking over or take it up the road. Re-check expansion tank and fill as required

That's how I thought, only problem is the heater doesn't work lol
The fan or no heat?

The fan.
Filled it, run it up, water is forcing itself out through the filler cap
Hi
Refilling the cooling system on the 2.0l engine is very rarely problematic. If you have filled the system slowly with pre-mixed water and antifreeze with the heater control set to hot, then start the engine and top up once the thermostat opens, things should be ok unless there is another problem.
You replaced the water pump presumably because it was leaking? Has the engine overheated due to running low on coolant due to a leak? Could it be that the head gasket has gone as a consequence?
usuly air in the system if the water comes flowing out of the header tank.air exspands maybe a blockage in the radiator trapping air in the pipe lines of the radiator
If water is forcing its self out of the expenaion tank when the car is started and the engine is cold then it would seem that you have engine compression in the cooling system which would be a head gasket problem.
But before you worry about head gaskets etc make sure you have got the basics right.
To fill and bleed the air out of an o series engine is very simple. Fill the coolant system with a 50% anti freeze and 50% water mix, by pouring the mix slowly into the expansion tank as you fill you will see the water level goes down quickly to start with and then will sort of level off until the water level doesnt drop any more. Leave the cap off the expansion tank, turn the heater to hot (you can turn the blower fan on if you want as it will make it easier to see if you have hot air coming out of the screen/floor vents) REMEMBER hot air will NEVER come out of the face vents
Start the engine, water should now drop slightly in the expansuion tank and if it does make sure you keep it topped up to the max mark (covering the ball in the bottom of the tank). With the engine running, start squeezing the bottom coolant hose until water can be felt in the pipe. When this is done check you are getting warm water into and out of the heater matix pipes where they go though the firewall, you should also, as the engine warms up get warm air out of the heater, all the time making sure the level in the tank doesnt go below the max mark. Check that the bottom hose is warming up the same as the other coolant pipes (this will keep a bit longer as the thermostat has to open) when the bottom hose is the same temperture refit the expansion tank cap and leave the engine to run until the radiator fan comes on, all the time keeping and eye on the temperture gauge. (gauge should go passed half way ie normal mark then the fan should come on and the gauge drop back to the normal mark, then fan off)
When the fan has come on and then gone off. turn the car off and allow it to cool for about 1.5 to 2 hours. after this open the expansion tank (there should be some pressure) and check and top up the level (you may have to top up level again when the car has been left to go stone cold as well)
Could also be the rear water pipe blocked. As for the fan have you checked the fuse?

The vent pipe on the thermostat housing was blocked, all sorted now
I cant work out which fuse is the fan jeff, according to the inside cover of the fusebox every fuse is wrong.
I'll crack the haynes book of lies out on saturday and get to the bottom of it.
Is there a fusebox diagram on the cover? Being a facelift model its much easier to sort I would thought as things 'improved'
The book of lies does have a facelift fusebox diagram in it
