Have you downloaded an import pack off the dvla website? You need to register with Swansea and nova. Nova is just to find out if any vat is due, which it isn't. Once that's done then send the import pack to the dvla. You only need the chassis number, engine number colour and year of manufacture. I've no idea atm how you would prove it was made in 1987. As you say, you could have a copy of a chassis and engine number close to you from another car. I have nothing from that year Looks a good car btw

Should be easy, John McFeely's two Monty turbos straddle your number nicely, one was registered in May '87 and t'other is October '87.
I don't feel it appropriate to disclose the actual details without John's express permission, but his contact details are publicly available in the BT online phone book, he lives in Gloucester. Give him a call...

Yes but you just need the details. The first one is still on DVLA records and was built before May '87 when it was registered D835SBW.
Yours is only 20,000 chassis numbers later and was probably built just after the August holiday shutdown as they were producing around 1000 Montegos a week at that time.
This might be enough for DVLA to accept it as 1987.
If not, then you need another set of details from a car produced in '87 after yours, or do Gaydon have any production records that marry chassis numbers to year?
