  • ORFCO - do I need it?

I have an L reg Montego which is pretty rough at start up. I adjusted the carb when I got it (the whole car was suffering from poor/no maintenance) and that did some good but I decided to check te ORFCO valve at the weekend and found ... well, I didn't find because a previous owner has taken it off. What is the effect of leaving it off like that?

It is in theory a good idea but it isn't very reliable hence the usual advice is to remove it. Lever it into the closed position - refit it and then don't wire it back in (tape up the loose wires)

You shouldn't notice that it is missing.

When it sticks partly open the fuelling goes too lean, you re-tune it to compensate but then it doesn't run right at different loads as then it is too rich.
