  • Maestro power

well I've started the strip down of maestro turbo 384 it's running standard turbo and carb does anybody have any experience in maximum reliable power that this engine can take and what upgrades will successfully achieve this without silly money being thrown under the bonnet and would 250 bhp be achievable for an 8v engine

Just a suggestion here, you would be better off putting all your wants etc and the gradual build putting on one thread on the members cars page instead of various pages. Dan, Mike Brock, Pete and a few others have uprated a standard Turbo O series engine. I believe it can be done up to 400 bhp but with a lot of modifications.

Fuelling with the standard carb becomes the biggest problem once running over 200 bhp.

The bottom end is very strong so you're good there.

What do you plan to use the car for? Road or race use?

I'm just wanting it to be good from the lights up to 60 with lots of noise to try and beat my mate who has a mk1 escort with a Nissan Silvia turbo engine in that he has thrown at least £10000 into the engine without not spending a fortune so I can rub his nose in it he leaves my standard mk2 rs escort for dead and has done for years it's time he had a little bit of competition for at least the first 100 metres so not for race use just the occasional hard acceleration to put a smile on my face and to make my wife complain and call me an idiot

Sorry but my money is on the escort with the Nissan engine, used to do some performance mods to those back in the day and if he’s spent £10k on the lump it will take some beating!

I've never seen it beaten it's over 400 bhp with a turbo like a dustbin lid and a £1500 remap and £2000 rewire it sounds like the Audi Quattro group b car but like I said it's the first 100 metres I want to keep up with his as his pockets are very deep and my wife is not as understanding as his he has just bought her the new golf r and even that can't beat the escort
he has been banging on for years that I should turbo my rs but that would be a crime so that's why I bought the maestro turbo as its hens teeth rare and when finished should still embarrass most modern stuff

The maestro is for sure a very formidable performer which will outrun and surprise a lot of modern cars and to be honest I’d choose the maestro over the escort as a choice of car but like I said earlier those engines are pretty darn good and with a little money spent can produce fantastic performance, with £10k spent on it then all I can say is please can I have a go!!!

It's frightening it spins the wheels at 100 mph when full boost kicks in he has been banned from more shows in the South Yorkshire area just because he lights the tyres up when he leaves as its apparently irresponsible but it always makes me laugh
we might be approaching 50 but we're going on 15 my wife always moans when I light the tyres up on the rs but I know deep down she loves it don't all women

There's a video on you tube under blundells it professionals where we loaned our cars for filming of a mock up for charity of the professionals mine is the White rs before it went off for a full nut and bolt concourse rebuild
I wouldn't be crashing it through boxes now
the blue escort is the Nissan turbo one I'm hoping to have the maestro done before June body wise it runs fine now so if the engine isn't finished and all shiny I just won't open the bonnet at shows
