The potentiometer is a fully sealed unit and cannot be cleaned internally although I cleaned the outside of it. I've no reason to suspect it. There is no normal gasket but a special kind of thick rubber gasket, which is OK. I put a new gasket in anyway. I'm beginning to think it could do with cyclinder...

What to do to cure rough start after throttle clean on MEMS ECU system?
On my MEMS 91' EFI with 95K miles on the clock, I found the throttle body to be all carbonized inside, and the car wasn't starting or idling well. So I detached the throttle body and cleaned it with the appropriate stuff (after first detaching the potentiometer and stepper motor so as not to damage...

Montego 2.0i 1991 right angle top thermostat hose to coolant rail underneath manifold
Hi all
I am referring to the right angled top hose that connects just underneath the thermostat to the coolant rail beneath the manifold, Its about 5inches long when straightened, but is right-angled, and has a 3/4 top internal diameter and 5/8 bottom internal diameter.
I was...

They are not all the same, as there are different variants of Montego bushes, especially lower front suspension arm (front/side bush only) which for some montego 2.0s (especially GTI/GSI) are bigger than the standard size. I know that for a fact because after buying the standard bushes, they would not...

Looking at the sharp bends especially on the rear section, I doubt any average pipe bender is going to be able to bend pipe to that degree. I think it would require a specialist tool which I don't have. I think its going to require bespoke 45degree pipe connectors too or some such thing....

Stainless steel or upgraded exhaust for 2.0 EFi montego?
Hi.
I know there was another thread on this many years ago, but I am wondering whether anyone has any tips on what is the best exhaust to buy or to upgrade to. Are there any good custom exhausts out there for the montego?
Does anyone do a stainless steel exhaust reasonably...

From what I can recall, different models of the Montego 2.0 have different bushes. I know mine were a very odd, non-standard, size, but I sourced them in the end from either powerflex or one of the other brands. You need to measure the bush size (length, width and flange width) to the nearest millimeter...

I suspect that it would, but I've had problems with emissions in the past even where the airflow sensor was properly attached. The garage had to decrease the idle speed to only just get it to pass on emissions then, although it could have been exacerbated by a dirty air filter. I like to think here...

I just got my CO emissions down from 4.5% (fail) to 1.38% (pass) by doing the following to my 90K miles EFI.
(a) Put engine flush in the petrol (tank 1/3 full) and use it all up on motorway driving at 70mph till tank empty light comes on.
(b) Refill tank with premium grade unleaded.

Also took some photos of my old fuel filter inside, as contrasted with what a new one should look like. It was pretty bad. Car is running much better now, unsurprisingly.

Just to update this thread on a useful tool to extract hard-to-extract petrol injectors. Mine had been in for 26 years since new, with engine running very poorly on petrol. I decided to change fuel filter and injectors myself after being quoted well over £100 by a garage, just for the labour. Fuel filter...
