Welcome to the Maestro and Montego Owners Club. Why not post in the Welcome & Feedback forum and introduce yourself?
Well after my visit this morning, I'm very impressed with the car. Apparently I'm not the first visitor from the club this week! The current owners have had the car a long time and have clearly loved this car very much over the years.
The car is very dusty/dirty. More so than in the ebay ad. I couldn't get all the way round it and it was very dark so didn't get as many pics as I'd have liked.
However, the car seems to be in very solid condition. Sills, body-seams and doors seemed to be very good. Work is needed to the rear arches/sill-joins as usual. Interior looks good, needing a thorough clean.
Apparently there was nothing wrong with the current original engine when it last ran, but that was a very long time ago, but as already mentioned, there is another engine with the car.
Is it correct to say the ebay pictures are very old? They look it compared to yours Ed

Red carpets and seat belts were discontinued in the Summer of 1987 when the fuel-injected MG Montego and Maestro were still badged as EFi (and Turbo in the case of the MG Monteog Turbo). When the changeover to the '2.0i' moniker occurred from late September/early October 1987 for the 1988 Model Year, the carpets and seat belts continued to be in the now standardised Flint Grey colour, with no opportunity for an 'upgrade' to red, not even as an extra cost option.
£742 for a non turbo that's been off the road for ten years and has no MOT and a possibly seized engine. We are in unchartered waters now with these values. Values are on the up big time. It's good to see for the cars. Hopefully the price indicates that it's going to a caring new owner.
Mk1 back lights, and other items point to this being one of the last pre facelift cars.
I dare say the late grill and bumper may have been added at a later date.
That being said, red carpets and belts although rare for a car of that year, they where still an option although rarely chosen.
I have had a couple of the last of line F plates built during the face lift period, which where still essentially Mk1's, but with the odd Mk2 bit thrown in.
This is rare as it gets -the (optional)GSi alloys and is last of the mk1 revisions
Sometimes a G reg Mk1 will pop up (very rare 2.0i Mayfair at that)
Any known Atlantic Blue Turbos?
