that's the worst orange-peel I've ever seen, even considering it's yet to be flatted and polished. Is it possible the ratio was a bit off, or is that normal?

Some bits of my turbo looked the same before flatting and polishing. so long as the paint is thick enough it'll flat out with enough time and effort.

I have to say it looks to be a long old job that though, and hard work if it is 2k.

Should've used base and clear-coat, get a much nicer finish out of the gun with little (if any in some cases) cutting back. Try and lay the panels flat next time, and get that garage floor wetted down to keep the dust away. Might be worth wetting the walls also.

            Top job though overall!

or even a new jag xf..........................the orange peel effect on them is very bad. Water based paint i guess. Rover group would never have allow even a metro to leave the factory with the level of orange peel new jags are coming with at the moment.

My 800 has near perfect factory paint.

The thing with painting is the more you do the better you get, its practice

bit of an up date.... think i will leave the paint job for the pro, have to save a few pennies for this though lol

so Ive started on the engine, it has low compression on two cylinders i found it that it needs new rings on 1 and 4 , while the heads off i'm going to lap the valves in and give it a light skim

all out and awaiting for my mate to finish with his engine hoist and stand so i can borrow it.

this is my engine stand at the minute four tree stumps and a worktop

                some stuff painted

                some goodies i brought

i still need to fit fuel tank and pump and underseal the front half of the car i will get pic of that soon

                            just a quick update

putting engine back together my way

                            looking all cleanish

                            engine in

tank going back on i need to take the rear beam off and give that a good clean and paint

some people might not like this but my aftermarket intecooler, ignor the tyre going backwards lol

just cable tied the intercooler in this pic to see what route i was taking

well it starts but dont last long more digging to find the problem and yes it has no exhaust and intercooler piped up lol..... but its all connected now and its still the same

                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMB4w3UJGwg

just test fitted lights so the intercooler pipework misses them also the wheels are not staying black.

side strips are on waiting for sealer to go off and brackets made for side skirts

All good, but wouldn't you have been better leaving the rubbing-strips until after the doors are painted, or are they done? Loving your improvised piston-ring compressors (assuming that's what they were).
