Found some holes today both rear arches and drivers side wing as there was a mass of filler on them will get some photos up later tomorrow but theres alot of rust bubbles around it bottom of the doors ect. But the sills are looking good just need a good rub down by looks of it

Gave it a really good clean today as the moss was on every pannel.

And I removed the dash as the heater matrix had a leak but a I might be able to fix it as its just a plastic seam with a pin hole leak so its not all bad

engine still runs with out the ecu being pluged in ? in the dash :?

I have made a start to stripping the interior and the car has some rust cancer as well no thanks to huge lumps of filler built up on the arches and sills, Dash and inside heater are all out and seats plus rear bench seats as well and wiring has been removed due to a old type alarm system that can only be discribed as being fitted by a blind monkey with parkinson's disease :/ But apart from the negitives the engine has come up really shiny after a good squrt of engine cleaner and a power hose

          Very interesting find.

The base estate is indeed pretty rare. Most people buying an estate would have found some cash for at least an L. If this car is one of the 12 SORNd Montego 1.6 base models showing on 'How Many Left?' there is a fair chance that the others are all saloons. So, assuming there are no other base estates that have been off the road since pre-SORN, this could be the last base estate left.

The wheels look right to me for a base model and the seatbelts are probably a hotch-potch because this car was probably delivered to the first owner without any belts in the rear.

Rear seat belts were an optional extra in the back I think but its got two gray ones and an odd black one as does the fromt passenger has a black seat belt but drivers has a grey belt.

Car now needs a sill as it just turned to dust today after touching it

i'm fan of those wheels too - quite a distinctive design...

as for the car, it looks like you've got your work cut out - but you sound like you like a project so it looks like its in good hands! the engine bay looks like its been looked after!

Done alot of work so far I have nearly all the interior striped out and both drivers and offside rear door are off the car now, I think how ever all be replacing both front wings and sills and back quarter pannels just were the rear arches have rusted away to all most nothing.

One part of the off side sill has rusted away so much from the rear arch that theres a 4 foot gap now allmost reaching the B-pillar Seems to be to many cheap fixes over the years as everything is filler filler and more filler I just hope theres a car left when all the filler and rust is away.

Back window rubber along the bottom was held on with builders clear silicone sealant

How do you mean wtf, Am just getting rid of all the rust and crap from over the years of hard driveing and most of the rubber mounts are perrished from the car siting for 2 years and dodgy repairs of filler and silicone sealant.

you can see them better if you temporarily alter the screen zoom to 50%

Craig, as your project is so interesting would you mind re-sizing the photos so we can see them better?? just a bit smaller would be good!!

You all need to get a decent browser which resizes photos to fit the window
