  • Bye bye G51 NAV…for a while anyhow!

And so on a gloomy but at least dry mid/late October afternoon it came to pass that I waved goodbye to our little G51 NAV, which hasn't spent a night away from us in over ten years !

It will return: it's off to my favourite body shop for a middle-aged nip-n-tuck. Or as my wife succinctly puts it, some bits of it don't look better than brand new so therefore I'm not satisfied I can't help being a perfectionist!

I've told them to take their time with it as I really don't need it before next spring. However I'm already getting empty nest syndrome…

lol! I suppose that's helped as well by it having no plates.

          Cheers Jeff.
Already it feels so weird not having it here. How pathetic am I to already miss it being here.

I stripped-off just about everything I could think of that might get damaged and I couldn't replace. Hence why it isn't even wearing any plates. They're a good body shop, but if for example the original front plate got whacked in storage and was damaged, they couldn't even begin to appreciate why I'd be off about it, even if they replaced it for free.

tailgate n/s bottom edge has minor blisters, all four door-bottoms need painting as they're the wrong colour of red (legacy from 2003 when I first had them painted to get rid of stone chips), 1cm chip on the n/s/r wheel-arch which happened years ago in my garage when a spade-handle hit it. Cracked back bumper, happened in 2004 when wifey had a 'whoops didn't see that low stone wall' moment. Few other minor bits and pieces along those lines. Oh and biggest of all, he's going to have a go at repairing the back box on the exhaust.

                    Thanks guys.
Don't hang off a cliff by your fingertips waiting for updates, especially as I've told them to take their time.

BigDave you're right it's a risk. I try to be positive though and look at it from the perspective that I'm paying for it to be housed over winter in a dry heated garage, and while it's there someone's kindly titivating it up for me.
