  • What engine oil do you use?

The Rally Project Maestro is two weeks away from setting off for Cape Town and its about to get one final oil change. Any advice? What do you use? (#See the thread above, Upgrades and Modifications chapter).

I use 5W40 or 0W40 fully synth in my Maestro 1.3 (and in fact even in my classic Maxi and 3litre). On the Maestro I'll change it every 12k miles. It will stay in grade much longer and still be good when the car reaches capetown.

          Regards,

          Alexander

I use 10w40 synthetic in mine the mg has run on it for 8 years and my lx auto and clubman are on it too, they are low mileage though.
Our first Mg Maestro 2.0i ran on fully synthetic from new and clocked up 125k when i sold her the engine was as new never used any oil and pulled like a trian the oil was clean too

No, just a couple of bananas to quieten the engine rattle

Always use 10w/40 in the Maestro from day one.

That is not so stupid. I once watched a Bentley driver out of oil poke loads of bananas down the top of the engine...it was in Greece, and it rattled on all the way to the finish on the Peking Paris.

10w40 or maybe 10w50 or 15w50 if you can find it.

I use Unipart silver 10W/40. Carlube 10W/40 is okay too and a reasonable price.

Dont like the sound of 0w-40, er, 0 is as thin as milk. Who makes a fully synthetic 15-40?
