Exactly. Modern cars - Japanese boxes in particular - are point and squirt anodyne boxes. There's no art to driving them.

I personally think (And I know it'll never happen because of the risk) people should be made to learn in something like a non-PAS Rover P6 V8. Heavy, needs skill to drive properly and if you foul up it turns nasty. I reckon it would get half the idiots off the road if they actually needed some ability to learn let alone pass their test.

Glad you walked away unscathed Jeff! Pity about the ZS though. Was a nice looking car. I always liked the latest ZS with the Montego style bodykit arches and cills! As far as Sat Nav goes, I have no complaints. I've used it to get to places that would have normally been a nightmare to get too, like Mal's barn! You can't blame Sat Nav for what happened here as there is no excuse for not reading road signs! My ZTT has smart nav, so there's no screen to distract you, but when I'm in the Monty I have a portable goodmans set which stick to the windscreen and haven't really had any near misses, nor caused any pile ups that I know of! As they say, a bad workman blames his tools! Main thing is you're ok

Very glad to hear you and the other driver are O.K- many of these "against the flow" type accidents prove fatal.

                Eeep.

Glad you are ok. The car has done its job in protecting the occupant so you can't ask much more.

You'd only just put it back together again too! Sods law eh?

Take it careful over the next few days Jeff, you may get some delayed shock or whiplash kicking in (especially once the adrenalin has subsided!).

As others have said, all people need is a brain and a map, satnavs are only really useful for the last few miles of a journey. But even then I refuse to have one, they're just one more distraction from the act of driving.

Shame about the ZS Jeff it was a well tasty motor. Glad that you are still ok a car is irrelevant in a crash it is just another possession it is the soft squidgy bit that drives it that is important!

I use a satnav at work when I dont know the round I am on but its only their as a driving aid.
                          I work as a 7.5tonne driver.
There was a case last year where a women drove through a ford that was deep and got stuck. When she was asked why she said "the sat nav told her to".
She put her brain in neutral and followed the sat nav.
Sat navs are only as good as the person using them.

When you follow it so blindly that you end up going the wrong way down a dual carriageway without common sense kicking in it's time to hang up the keys I think.
