ok - I can't see a problem in theory with getting ARB Drop links made up - this can get discussed at the next committee meeting (i.e. this isn't an offer that we'll get them made up, it's an offer that we'll discuss it. to allow me to get some prices in I need to see what the interest is from members and non members alike.

can anyone interested say below how many they would purchase if each unit (1No. Drop link) was:
    1. £10
    2. £20
    3. £50

please be serious with this, do your offer as if it was ebay and you were going to be held to it...

I think anything above £20 for drop links is expensive personally

If it was the only thing I could'nt get to keep my car on the road I would pay the £50.

I would seriously buy two pairs at £50, let us know what you can work out.

But where does it end then by that ruling? lol

Everything a flat price of £50 cos lots of things would keep a car off the road. things are still worth what they're worth

I guess it all depends on how much you value your car, and the enjoyment you get from driving it?.

I'm just soley trying to gauge actual interest here in drop links fellas...

I've a friend working in a family run engineering firm, and i'll try and get some actual prices, but i was just wondering what the actual interest would be in buying them before i go wasting a lot of peoples time....

I don't think it does. Common sense has to come into it coupled with the fact people still use them as daily drivers. If the running costs start to go through the roof there will be a proportion of people (myself included unfortunately) who would have neither the funds nor inclination to run a Maestro/Montego on a Rolls Royce budget

I hardly think £50 for a drop link is a RR budget! You disagree with Mal but he is spot on. If £100 in parts is going to stop you from keeping your maestro on the road then being an old car that will come shortly! It is for those of us that have become attached to our cars that will buy parts or modify around the issue to keep them going!

Also as Team 78 are already producing drop links I don't really think it is such a great idea to take it further. I know theirs are expensive but I see that as the only way to go, top quality and durable. The dig at Member police is just that, it is nothing personal. There were a few threads on Triple M also around that time, also it isn't the number of threads but the size of the threads. I remember some of them being quite long, especially with people recommending replacements.

so someone else is manufacturing the drop links?

What other stuff are we short of? I hope no ones daft enough to suggest we start a run of doors or something - one door would probably cost the same as a concourse turbo project just completed!!

body panels are a non-starter... as would cast items like manifolds, or water pumps etc.

throw some ideas out there, what are we short of now that will stop you keeping your car on the road in lets say the next 18 months...

can think of filler necks myself...

Don't mis-understand me. The only reason i said that is that I did the droplinks on my dad's X-type last week and they we £17.00 a pair. High prices for such basic items will make the cars even more scarce is my point. I've decided to run a Maestro because I am a massive BL/AR Rover fan and have had ALOT from them marque over the years a hell of a lot. If standard items would be too expensive then only hardcore enthusiats would end up running Maestros and Montys. If thats the kind of thing you after so all the cars are worth high four figure sums, it kinda defeats what I'm into the cars for. i like em because they're interesting, fun and remind me of a simpler time in my life. I don't take any fun in coupling those feelings with a money pit.

And if these items are already available what's the issue? lol

Most stuff seems to be available anyway, only panes etc or parts of panels and the same could be said for loads of cars, people improvise and use skills to get around it on other cars, I see the same happenning on these too.

Just my opinion though guys, I may be new to the club/forum, but please don't interperet that as me being completely wet behind the ears.

I can't remember how much mine worked out at when I had the drop links remade myself, but as I wanted a set but didn't want to pay the £100 for the repro's already available and I wanted some stiffer polyurethane items, I got them remade. There wasn't a lot of serious interest for lots so there were only a few sets made. I think there is a spare set in my turbo boot somewhere!

anyone got a picture of these drop links - I cant remeber what they're like on my montego, and i've got non on my Maestro...

All i can relate to at the moment is my Avenger which has solid steel droplinks with 4 rubber bushes on... it fits btween the ARB and the Track Control Arm....

are these ones for M/M's something an engineering shop could make up or are they more specialist?

just been doing a bit of searching and I see the problem, it needs an engineering outfit and a polybush outfit and the 2 bringing together
