  • 2.0 EFi water pumps

A while ago I did the cambelt on my 88 EFi, and had a bit of a struggle finding the right water pump. From memory there were plenty of early-type EFi pumps available but not the later type which has a longer 'elbow' pipe.

Anyway I've been scouring eBay for parts and there seems to be a new batch of the later type pump available at quite reasonable prices, £25ish.

Just thought I'd post in case anyone is in the same position as I was.

As an aside does anyone know the reason for the different pump types? Eg why did it change - I thought EFi was pretty much unchanged through production.

I wonder if it was due to the addition of power steering as an option?

Early HA engine was near the same as per austin ambassador and the mgb was used as a mule for it.
The engine was given a rework in about 1985 and again in 1988/89.
The reworking did much to improve it. Quinton Hazel water pump for the later models used to be quite common but is getting rarer as the years go by.
I remember putting up posts with the part number years ago for a reference for anyone who needed it. Part number is qcp2506
