My new crank sensor has arrived ready to fit. I’ve managed to get the top bolt out (1hour 15 minutes!) and now I need to no doubt spend longer getting the bottom one out - almost impossible to access - all tips welcomed!
8mm socket from memory, and I think I used various extensions to undo it. Is a bugger of a job as no room. Don't forget the small gasket if it has one

Thanks Jeff. Certainly no gasket provided with the new one. Did you access it from under the car? I think I’ll have to try this.

Hi Matt, yes from under the car. From memory the turbo housing is in the way but it can be done. I have ratchet spanners, smaller length spanners etc in my tools so use those on no access areas aswell.

Thanks Jeff. I failed for half an hour to get the multiple extended ratchet lever on from under the car as I couldn’t see the sensor! Managed to loosen the bottom bolt from above but can’t get them more than about 2 turns undone and whilst I can just touch it, it won’t doing with my one digit! Seriously thinking about taking all the manifolds off, sending the turbo off for the seals checking and sorting it all at the same time.

Haven't you just had that manifold off when you did the headgasket? Lot of extra work just for one tiny bolt.
Not cheap doing the turbo but if that's what you're doing I would send it to turbo technics, don't forget you may that to get it out of the housing to send it over and those nuts/bolts might be a buggar to loosen. Either that or send the exhaust manifold including the turbo to them and let them do it

Thanks for the advice on turbo checks/refurbs Jeff. I managed today to get the old sensor out and new one in. What a job. Anyway, I’ll run the engine up to temperature this week to see if it makes a difference. Fingers crossed.

Well done, buggar of a job on a turbo that. Any luck in finding the correct ECU?
