The only difference I can see in the Rimmers one is the plastic retainer but you could remove that and put your nuts on it from the snapped one

It looks like the later one has a ball end, whereas mine & other 'mid' ones have a barrel cable end (like a bicycle brake cable).
Trouble with that type is that the nuts don't fit over the barrel end, unless you cut a slot in them (a bit fiddly).
