  • Rotor arm issues + Can I Convert to Coil pack?

    Hi,

Finally got my engine back together but the rotor arm was a pig to remove and ended up breaking the plastic leaving this metal part. Am I right in thinking this was part of the old arm and needs removing too.. ? The new arm I have (Part number: XR119) has a significantly smaller mounting hole. The image in the Haynes book looks a lot smaller.

Due to the location of the cap (now in RWD format), would it be possible to replace the coil and cap with a 4cyl coil pack (ford based) and still use the Turbo's ECU?

You can use a dremmel to grind the remaining part of the rotor arm off.
    But don't go through it

If you grind on the top part it should eventually split

Looks as though it might pop off with a crow bar (obviously flat end) if you leaver it. If you haven't a dremmel.

Coil packs wouldn't be compatible I presume?

No idea. It would be great if I could use one with the standard ecu. My issue is it takes about 30min + to take off the dizzy cap!

As you can see, it's way back in the bay, in the bulkhead!

You'd have to fit another ecu that can run a coil pack rather than dizzy. So either live with the hassle or add £5-600 plus fitting and mapping to you project?

Thanks for the info. I think I will just stick with it for now, until I feel the need to switch to a T series engine :-)
