I have owned my Montego diesel estate for almost a year and enjoyed being back behind the wheel of a vehicle a remember fondly when I had them as company cars. I have sepnt some time and money on it, which I expected. Very recently there is a groan noise coming from the steering pump when I turn the steering wheel in either direction, most noticable when stationary or moving slowly. Am I correct in assuming this is the pump? Fluid level seems fine so I am expecting to have to replace the pump, but I cannot see any availability when searchin on-line. Does anyone have any thoughts on obtaining a replacement please. Also, I had planned to take this vehicle from our home in the south of England up to the Cheviots in Northumberland where we have a holiday cottage. I am assuming this would be unwise until pump replaced? Thank you to anyone who can offer help or suggestions. Stewart

The pumps on diesels are usually very reliable, noise could be from the belt? Adjusting the belt tension is fairly straightforward, you need to loosen the nut in the centre of the tensioner pulley, then tighten belt tensioner screw with an allen key. Checking to see how tight the belt is is easier with the belt cover removed, but I usually just tighten it one turn, then retighten the locking nut. One turn is generally about right to get belt from 'just slipping' to 'just gripping'. If you do need a pump it might be worth enquiring at https://www.xjrover.co.uk/contact-us, not sure if they have one, but worth asking, the parts stock isn't all listed on the web site. Rimmer's used to have them, but I guess stocks may have dried up. If all else fails I should be able to find a good used one, which you could pick up on your way to the Cheviots. , good luck, John
