  • Cat Converters- Montego Countryman Estate- difference between 1993 & 1994 versions?

still searching for a cat converter for our L-Reg (1994) Montego Countryman Estate. Tantilisingly, there are some on ebay - new manufactured apparently, eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/177098245610 However compatible vehicles listed includes 1993 saloons and estates, but for 1994 it just lists saloons. Anybody able to tell me if there is a difference between 1993 and 1994 Montego countryman estates that would make this cat converter incompatible for our 1994 vehicle?

The parts microfiche lists catalytic convertor GEX 8000 superceded to GEX 8048 for all cars (saloons and estates) for UK and Europe except Holland and Germany. The difference between UK and Europe and Holland and Germany being "with nickel" and "without nickel". The link in your message covers these part numbers. It begs the question what is the issue with your existing cat? Bearing in mind cat fitted Montegos are exempt from the Cat test on MOT's. I find i have to re educate some MOT testers when i change testing station to this fact. Hope this helps. See this. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-insp...ection-8-2-1-1 then scroll down (a long way) to "chart 2". Montegos are not listed in the EGA database or In Service Emissions Book so are exempt from the Cat test but have to pass the Non cat test.

Thanks Zephyr for the very helpful information. Our BL-trained SE London mechanic thinks that ebay cat converter will work OK, so I'm just ordering it. The reason for looking to replace it is because it is rattling from time to time - sometimes a lot, sometimes not at al. Mechanic says you can't investigate inside it to see whats happening.
