  • Wiper parking

Hi there. Minor irritation with my wipers. When switched off they stop wherever they are rather than parking up. I have a new DRC8908 unit but I dont know if that’ll do it. Presumably the wipers have a switch to signal to the control unit that it has reached the end of the cycle. Does anyone know if this is fixable e.g. a contact cleaner up perhaps, or if I’ll potentially need to look for a new wiper motor? Matthew

They probably haven't been set properly. If you have a manual it tells you how to set them. Also try and replace the control unit with your replacement. Early models were under the fuse box, later are on the drop down tray on the top of the glove box

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, I looked in the glovebox and couldn’t find it so that’s good to know. I’ll look for the unit tomorrow - will I need to release the fuse box to find to it?

Wipers definitely not set right. When I got the car they went past the A-pillar - you can see where they took off the paint! I adjusted them which helped a bit but I’ve now found that section of the workshop manual on how to set them. I’d not realised you set them just below the little stops then lift them over. I assume that’s so they’re under a tiny bit of tension against the stoppers when parked?

No, if under the fuse box just remove the cover and you'll see it on a bracket. If on the top of the glove box drop down tray you would have seen it when you looked at the fuel ECU. You have to set the wipers via the motor and wiper mechanism to find out if they're parking properly so you'll have to remove the back covers under the bonnet to get to it as it's under the scuttle panel on the nearside
