  • Dashboard vent, driver's side

Whilst investigating my courtesy lights, my hand up behind the dashboard.....

The "ventilation pipe" attaches to a plastic moulding which in turn attaches to the rear of the driver's side vent. Only in my case, the moulding does not attach tightly to the vent, more just and so reaches it. One of the screws holding the dashboard itself seems to be getting in the way. Should I get an allen key and remove the screw, see if the dash vent then attaches tightly?

    See photo below.....

And for some light relief, a bit of cosmetic.....The black trim around the rear window had bits chipped out of the outer edge. Some black tape has smartened this up

It's not an allen key screw, It's a torx screw. They shouldn't affect the vent at all as the bolts screw into a plate bracket, you are missing a plastic cover strip on you picture though from the dash to the A post. also two torx screw covers
The plastic side vents are only pushed in to the dash and have foam on the other side which attaches to the vent pipes behind the dash

"The plastic side vents are only pushed in to the dash ......"
            - guess I can just pull it from the dash then (I have plenty of plastic trim removal tools) and holding the vent pipe behind the dash "jiggle" things a bit this way and get a tight fit

Have a look at this thread as guessing that's what you mean. It is a lot bigger and has a foam insert in it for no air leaks and rattles, it's not supposed to be tight. Post 101, page 7 shows the vent pipe picture with the dash removed https://maestro.org.uk/forums/forum/...-with-digidash

Ahh, "....it's not supposed to be tight" - I'll just plug/tape the gap then for a better air flow out of the vent

Just put a bit of foam over the vent and into the pipe, enough to create a seal. They don't have a great air flow in the side vents anyway, the middle vents do when on cold though

Thank you, I've done 3 MG Montego efi's with digital dash now. I did make a good job of the red and blue ones I think. It's a stable mate of my old black 1988 MG Montego Turbo which was a lovely car, blue 1985 MG Montego efi I rescued from the scrapyard and a project white MG Montego Turbo. The red one is also in the background of the TV program in a few episodes. The black digital dash one Ray finished the car as I had lost interest by then and let him have it cheap as I knew he would do it properly
All but the black MG Montego might be up for sale soon though as the owner isn't in the best of health and he has over 250 cars.

And getting it ready for a magazine article, a mate of mine Steve spent all day on it and it came out superb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u7P...B0dXJibw%3D%3D

Wow!!!!........and I thought I had 'Montego' in my blood!

The number of cars - "I've done 3 MG Montego efi's with digital dash" , "he has over 250 cars." - Incredible!!

.....and, the standard of restoration - It puts me to shame!

Thanks for the advice ref. the foam.....

Whilst tinkering..... I noted the glove box lid, the lower section, only had one screw. One was floating round in the corner of the glove box, so at least now one screw each end.
The rubbers/seal around the driver's door coming away at a couple of points. Glued 'em back on.

                            All these little things help.

I think the black Turbo looks yet more impressive!!

Does the Maestro Advantage have particular significance? I always remember my colleague in my first proper job having a Metro Advantage, which I always used to park alongside.
