  • Restoring steering wheel

Hi everyone. I just wanted to share details of a product I’ve used a lot. I first used it on replacement BMW plastic trim which was the wrong colour, so cheaper, and then on leather rear seats which were yellow but needed to be black. It’s essentially the paint surface you touch but which we deem to be the leather!

My steering wheel was awful. Filthy with scrapes and manky leather. I cleaned it with AutoGlym leather cleaner which turned a sink of water brown! Then rinsed thoroughly, let it dry over night and then gently sanded the leather surface until it was smooth with 400 grit paper. After another wipe over and dry I used Leather Clinics dark grey leather paint (£14 from Amazon) on a tiny sponge and applied about 4 thin coats.

I’m pleased with the results. I’ll try to upload pictures

It’s great stuff. I first used it on the side bolster of my Rover as the leather was worn. Still looks perfect 5 years on. It’s a great product.
