Going to die soon
Well here are the finial pictures of MG Turbo 316. As you can see the shell is very gone. It would not have been safe to repair. It has had lots of bodges in its life and attemps of repair.
It is shocking to think that the only reason the car was taken off the road was because the pervois owner couldnt get it to start.

Windscreen supports rusting though

Handy inspection hole that helped me to remove the fuel tank, was repaired by someone in the passed by screwing a piece to angle iron on top, which the fuel tank was then bolted to!!!!

Damper probably fitted by the same person who did the fuel tank bodge. i think he forgot a bolt!!

The earths for the rear lamps were fitted with sky hooks here

Axle stands under the most shoild part of the car
Will be of to scrap soon, if anyone would like to rusty panals now is your last chance

I don't think it would be unrealistic to say that's the condition any Maestro Turbo would be if left outside all its life, especially one that might have not been enthusiast owned. Saved yourself a lot of work there though.

Ross - I love those pictures!
Having seen the project first hand I knew it'd turn out to be a cracker but it's always great to see such a tidy engine bay...
More pictures please, and keep the motivation going to get it finished!
Those pictures of the original turbo shell really show that you've saved its spirit from oblivion - that was one knackered car.You can contact me by clicking here.

As promised a couple of pics of what i have been up to. Have been test fitting the panals to make sure they will all fit nicely. Need to drill the tailgate next to get the spoliers to fit, i am not looking forward to that.
I ahve also had the engine turning over on the started motor to push some oil around the engine and turbo. Need to get the radiator sorted out now, i have a secondhand one to get recored, also need to get new tyres on the back too.
Got some on the front. i have gone for Avon zv3s as they are a good tyre and have the all important 'made in england' stamp on them. i have the 195 50 size as not only are they wider and lower they are also about half the price of the 185 55s which were OE.
have replaced the old maky looking air feed pipes under the bonnet with some new ones from ebay, they are of the same design to so would recommand them to anyone wanting to get their cars engine bay looking like new.

Well it has been a while since i have done anything to the car, well at least given an up date.
I have fitted the turbo fuel tank and made sure a got all the flakey bits out of it. Replaced all the rubber fuel hoses and hammeried and tank and filler neak.
The rear h frame is all done with new bushes, shocks and lowering springs. Rear brakes and bearings all done, though still need to find some cable joiner clips so i can adjust the handbrake. System all bled though.
Got a new radiator as well from kempston rads in bedford have usedthem before and are excellant really know their stuff. As soon as i walked in with the old rad he knew it was from a maestro/montego. He also said that the 1.6 rad is the same as the turbo (they do look the same) and the only difference between them (reason for diffent part numbers) is there are fixings for the front mounted fan on the 1.6 (didnt even need to remove them to get it to fit in front of the intercooler)
So the car all finished mechancily..................................so brought a gallon of super unleaded and spon her over........and of course the only part of the car that i did touch ( the carb) as it was fine discided to leak fuel out of the float camber seal
So been to mini spares in Pottersbar today (after no local parts suppiers had anything) and got the float camber seal. I was very impressed with them, though they didnt have any of the turbo hif44 complete rebuild kits in stock ,only the needle float valve kit (different on turbos), so i brought that to put to one side for another day. They can get all the HIF44 stuff for the turbo just need to order it.
Put the carb back on, tested and not leaking.........................but of course the car still didnt start as it seems to have lost its spark again Gives me something to do tomorrow i guess.... think i may have put the duff ecu on by mistake, will report again tomorrow
