I was at MG Silverstone entering my ZR-Express into the P.O.O event & was talking the the MGCC in the P.O.O office & mentioned the judging at MG's in the Park at the Cotswold's Wildlife Park saying the judging was iffy re my MG Montego. A lady asked about my Montego & said would I like another one? I asked what she had & she said a Turbo so I said What an MG Turbo? Yes she said.
Her husband got talking to me & said they just wanted it to go to a good home & offered it to me FOC but there were spares to go with it & they wanted some money for them. I initially said if it didn't cost too much to collect I would be interested. On looking at the pictures I could see a good solid car but I knew that I would want to make it as good as my current one for which I could see how much that was likely to cost then considered the fact that other than the Turbo bit the car was the same as mine in every way & apart from the dirt it it very similar to how mine was when I got it.
I then considered the fact that my MG Metro is undergoing a major renovation & is costing a lot more than I initially expected so Jeff & I spoke & the rest will be history made!!
I was at the Silverstone MG event checking into the MGCC office for the P.O.O event. I was talking to them about the judging at the MG's In The Park event saying the judging was iffy when I entered my MG Montego. One of the club staff said Did you say you have a Montego? Would you like another? I said what is it? A Turbo was the answer, so I said is it an MG Turbo & I was told yes, then my eyes lit up lol.
Her husband spoke to me as I was prepping my MG ZR-Express Van on the stand & said the car the car was FOC but an amount was wanted for the spare parts but that it would need to be collected from Central France!! It had been sat for 10 years plus as they were told it was too expensive to register it in France & wanted it to go to a good home. I said that if it wasn't too expensive that I would be interested. A couple in France were interested I believe in buying it last year but for whatever reason the sale did not take place.
I thought about it for a while but decided that although the car seems pretty solid & in a condition much the same as mine was when I got it that I would end up spending a fortune getting it to my standard. To add to that that other than the TURBO bit the car is near on identical to mine so I thought a bit pointless having twins. I then needed to consider that I have no extra inside storage & that my MG Metro renovation has turned into more of a restoration & is costing way more than expected (as usual).
On that basis I decided to speak to Jeff & the rest he will report further on!!
obv an MG enthusiast, there's a Midget door on that wall too :-)
MGCC member David and he also has other MG cars. The Montego is outside as his storage is full
