Pete and others who have a turbo engine, this is a new one on me that an O series engine only has a half circle indentation.
    Would this be another engine?

Definitely turbo as it has the turbo oil drain going into the block. I have three turbo engines and one of them has the oil filter orientation horizontally to the pump - I suspect this is an early montego type? I'm wondering if I remove this pump it might be half circle arrangement as well ??

I removed a pump from my C reg engine and Tony removed a pump from my spare engine and both had a complete circle recess.
The E reg white turbo I had also had the complete circle so I've never known any with a half circle.
Rimmers advertise an oil pump so I had a look at it for Tony but that's an efi pump and with full circle.

As all are now NLA I don't know where you would start to look for one.

Although I can't be 100% certain (because my block is still at the engineering shop) I am pretty sure that my block is the same as in Tonyrs' pictures. I'm hoping that the block will be returned before the weekend, so will be able to confirm at that time. BTW my engine number starts as 12HE

              Hi

With that engine number that engine has to be out of an early Montego turbo. Whether that helps in finding an oil pump I can't be 100%.

As a further quick pointer; while checking the Haynes (Montego) manual last night, I noticed their picture of the O-series engine oil pump and front block face shows the half circle indent as on Tonyrs' pictures.

My block is being returned this evening, so if I get time, I'll quickly mount up the main bearing cap and take a pic. Otherwise it'll be the weekend....

don't the early pumps have oil filter facing the rear of the car? and later cars oil filter facing the floor?

Just got the block back and after putting the main bearing cap in place, I see that I've got a fully round indent that matches up with the pump rotor plate as seen on the right of the pic. So, I'm of the same mind as Jeff, and wondering what the block is from. Looking back to the Haynes manual (Chapter 1, section 18, pic 18.9), that is definitely a half round shape and a totally different gasket to the one on my pump. So maybe, its a standard block and the oil pump did not have the large(r) rotor housing that requires a full indentation.

The picture you're quoting from the manual is for an O series engine but the very early ones. The same as my digidash engine where the filter is at the front. This side of the engine is completely different to later types.
Early engines have the round top cylinder head, later are 'flat top'. I've not seen a turbo engine with the front filter housing.
The alternator is at the rear of the block.
It is possible I suppose the tony's engine has been converted from an efi but I maybe wrong
