MG rear spoiler - how is it mounted?

I'm having a tailgate repaired and sprayed but I'll need to transfer the all-important spoiler to the new tailgate.

How is it retained to the metalwork?

I had a look in my AR workshop manual but there's nothing shown about that.

Spoilers normally have flat bolts moulded on a metal plate inside the spoiler. Those go through holes on the bodywork with nuts holding it on so if you remove any plastic trim on the inside of the tailgate you should see nuts holding it behind that. Those will be rusty mind so spray with plus gas or your equivalent

What Jeff says is exactly right, if I were you I'd give the nuts a squirt of penetrating oil every day for at least a week, the ones down the side and the little screw on the end of the bottom spoiler are more or less outside on a Maestro, so can be even more of a nightmare than Montego ones. On the plus side you can wire brush the exposed threads on the side ones & if they look as if they are going to snap it is possible to cut the nuts off with careful use of a dremel, thus saving the bolts...

Thanks gents. Do you know if the side strakes are held on with 3m tape or also bolted on?

They are the nuts on the outside of the tailgate seal, good luck!
