Can you splice into the existing wires and swop the plugs over ?

I had a similar problem with a Montego one & did what Jeff has suggested, the wires should have the same colour code, I just cut the wires and soldered the long original wire onto the new wire, taped the wires then sealed the joint with tiger seal. Worth checking that the ball on the drive crank is the same size too, there were two different sizes iirc, but the shafts that the crank fits onto are all the same, so easy enough to swap over. You could use crimp or block connectors if you don't have a soldering iron, if you do this make sure to do a good job of sealing it up....

Wasn't that your issue before ? Does it work on one speed now but not high speed from the stalk?

There are five connections on the old motor and four on the new, would it be something to do with that ?

No I cut the black earth wire on the new motor and connected it to the black wire on the old motor with the rest of the wires so the new motor now has five wires.

There were five wires on the new motor there was a black wire seperated from the connector block so joined it using a connector block

I'm guessing all worked previously? Did you do anything to the switch wiring when it stopped working the first time?

Then you might have a wiring issue or the stalk has a problem if you've tried changing the relay and it only worked once
