Headlining!

My mind is thinking ahead to sorting the headlining - the previous repair was a bit of a bodge. When I collected the car from POL most of it was in place, if a bit grubby looking. However, it was hanging around the sunroof. I put the beading around the sunroof back in place and at least stopped the headlining from sagging with duck tape. A long way from a proper fix though!

The previous owner tells me the sunroof motor does work. The sunroof not operating is more an issue of the switch not connecting. Likewise, the courtesy lights don't work either. All due to the bad job made "repairing" the headlining.

Who can you recommend to replace, sort the headlining properly? The closer to the North West of England the better.

Headlining is quite easy to do, removing it on an estate is easier than a saloon as it's pulls out from the rear. What's possibly happened is it wasn't done properly round the sunroof opening as it's supposed to have about an inch or more loose fabric so the seal locks it in.
I put up a how to do headlining including pictures a few years ago so have a search for that.
As for the sunroof motor, check the fuse in the fuse box, relay in the motor opening drop down and the switch itself, the internal lights work on the same earth and the live runs up the A post on the driver's side

Thank you and it does work as many have used it in the past. I've done a few ' how to' on here.
You have nothing to lose doing it yourself. Martrim or Woolies supply the headlining material and spray glue so just pick what colour suits you, you'll not get the original colour but can get close to it.

I will in due course.....I'll need to peel back the tape I've used to stop it hanging first. The adhesive has failed a bit in the heat anyway.

Hello Jeff......I am most likely going to do the headlining myself. Indeed, I'd prefer to have control of the job. I did, however, visit a very local car interior trimming business today. A very brief encounter - they ultimately said they were too busy and gave me the number of "Joe Bloggs, one man band" who I'd be even less inclined to use.
They did, however, make one interesting comment - I said it was more the biscuit hanging around the sunroof than material hanging from the biscuit. I went in Montego and he took a very quick look inside. He then said "they often make a bad job of the clips around the sunroof", or words to that effect.
I've just been looking more closely at your instruction. Are there such clips?

Other points -
I'll have to investigate the sunroof switch first so I can open the roof to do the job.
When removing the biscuit, will it "come away" relatively easily once grab handles, courtesy lights and sunroof switch removed? How else is it held up?

I'll send you photos once I have my "headlining day" planned and remove my tape shortly before hand.

There are no clips in the headliner, it's sagging around the sunroof opening as the headlining material probably isn't attached to the seal. If you look at my how to do it thread the only difference should be where is joins at the tailgate fixtures. You should also be able to see the differences in your existing round the sunroof and what it should be on my thread as you haven't put any pictures up of it.
You can also remove the headliner biscuit without opening the sunroof then go from there

....... I took advantage of the heat which was making it easier (if stickier on the fingers ) to remove my temporary tape. There's not enough excess material around the sunroof to be caught, held by the beading.

No worries and did point that out on the 4th August on this thread for you. Do it yourself as you'll get a lot of satisfaction out of it

Good evening Jeff.
The headlining will come out in full down the line......but for now I've done a much better repair. White tape for a start! I removed my old job which was at least stopping the inch or so of hang around the sunroof. I then fully removed the beading. I applied a border of white tape, attaching to the headlining ,around the sunroof. This gave enough excess to wrap over and be caught behind the beading.
All much neater, far better......for now.

I did note quite a bit of crumble in the front driver's side corner of the biscuit.

The sunroof switch was connected fine and I made a better job of fitting the plastic which surrounds it to the headlining.
