This car is en route to being as good as the works built rally Maestro back in the 80s!

Some clever mechanical skills going on there - the preparation going into it is outstanding. It would be great if we could see where those handbrake cables go under the car?

              cheers

Thanks mike. I will get a picture of the cables once they are in place. The offside one looks like it will go round the tank as apposed to under it which is ideal for me as im wanting to run a tank guard as high as possible for ground clearance. This might not be possible on your car as you will be mounting your h/brake in the normal position so yours will be straighter

When are you going to divulge what the powerplant will be?

Ross asked me to confirm how many turns my Maestro:
                      race/rally MG Maestro 1600 - "Pink Panther"
                      http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16986

has from lock to lock. I've just been able to get access to the car again and the answer is 3.5 turns.

The reason he asked is because my car is reputed to have a power steering rack in it (albeit without the rest of the power steering set up fitted -which is a shame as its v heavy on hairpin bends and tight autosolos, and would be a LOT better with a lighter wheel!)

that sounds like a standard rack, john. mine has PAS, and it's 2 turns lock to lock. much better for chicanes!!

Cheers John. I must have fittted the same rack as you have as it gave me 3.5 turns also. It came from a 2.0 EFI. How have you managed to get 2 turns lock to lock Martin?

The standard 1600 rack was very light when driving slow. Just too many turns (4 1/4 from memory) What I dont want is it to be heavy. Trial and error really just now.

I'm presuming it's a standard PAS maestro rack. it might be 2 and a bit TBH

Hmm there must be a few PAS racks to choose from

doh! just checked; 1.4 each way, 2.8 lock to lock. to be fair I've never needed more than a full turn of the wheel to get around chicanes, etc. usually use handbrake for hairpins anyway!
