  • Insurance?

I know most of you , will say about my body work , and getting it sorted , but it wont be worth doing , if i dont have a maestro.....

No , Im not getting rid either!

When my brother stops using it , or plans to in may it will have tax and test until december 2005.. But no insurance.

Apparently its not on the home insurance as it will be on the driveway , not in the house.. and it wont be on my brothers as his insurance will be transfured over to his "new" car .

How am i ment to insure it though , as all sights are asking for driving licence numbers? and im not to keep with it being on my dads insurance , and he most likely wont agree.

Thaughts / Website links would be nice ...

    Thanks in advance. Graham

Go for the smallest limited mileage policy you can find, be that 500 or 1000 miles.

        Insurace?

It doesn't need to be insured. Claim the tax back and store it off the road.

'Please release me, let me go.....'

Graham, you cannot insure a car at 15! You need a drivers license to be insured for a car....

If a quote for me with my license on my dad's insurance for 'GGT comes to £3,500 a year, what do you think you can acheive??

Give it up, please, and go do the bodywork on the car you are already very lucky enough to have in the first place.

(In it's simplist terms: If someone puts your windows through (however unlikely that will be) it will be vastly cheaper to repair yourself than paying out for insurance that's certainly not needed.)

There is companies about that will insure a stored car, but its something your dad will have to do for you , as the insurance company still see you as a child and will not deal with you . Only your dad

As Steve says it will be cheaper to not insure it, get a cover over it and if it does get damage it will be cheaper to mend it yourself. With the money you save from not having it insured

                        They're right, you know, Graham!

Park it safely somewhere, stick a cover over it to stop people taking an interest and if it comes to harm you're much better off just buying new or repairing.

I'm sure it won't come to too much harm in sunny St. Ives

                          Insurance

Ok thought I would post this here, as I believe it would be of some benefit to Graham.

I have been looking at insurance quotes for myself on my dads policy for 'GGT. Remember that this is a base model 1.3 Maestro...

My quotes so far, stating my posession of a Full license for TPFT cover, I have been quoted in the region of £2,000. My dad's 10 years NCB cannot be used on another policy so that makes it no picnic either.

Quotes for my own policy have been around the same mark also.

The lowest quote I can possibly acheive would be on my dad's policy for his Rover 75 1.8 - being in the region of £1,500. This is due to the fact that his NCB is on this policy.

I can't afford either of the above options. If I pay for my course of driving lessons/tests I will be left with a bank balance of £0.

So, unless I just pay for my dad to run 'GGT - the car and I are scr*wed. Either way, I just cannot insure anything.

I can't believe the trouble you guys are having getting insurance! When I first had H224 (no sooooooooo long ago), I was paying £700 TPFT. I was 22 at the time. And that's a 2.0 MG.

My first year was with one of those "high risk" specialists called Keith Michaels, based in Sutton. From then I was with Bell Direct for a couple of years (look them up on the web) and then Elephant.co.uk. I'm now with Lancaster, who are recommended by the MG Owners Club, but they were never competitive until I insured my Minor with them as well.

Incidentally, I have my wife as a named driver on the Minor. She's 27 and a learner, and our premium is £170 fully comp :toothy:

I'm rather surprised at your quotes being quite that high, too. Obviously, the fact that you can't use your dad's NCB is the big killer. We didn't have this problem, because the Maestro was our main family car, thus already bearing my dad's full NCB. We paid £360 TPFT when I was 17, for my dad as policyholder, and my mum and I as named drivers.

I don't know how much bearing postcode has on things for TPFT, but maybe this has something to do with it as well.
