I've arranged to view "M 62 XCM" this coming Tuesday. Mathew made the following points -

    - the indicator stalk is now fine after a bit of electrical contact cleaner
    - indicators fine, it went on a 20 mile run, much of it motorway, with no issues
    - he still reckons the number plate is worth a few ££ - he now says the 'XCM' bit is worth something, that being the name of an Amazon subsiduary
    - he again regarded it as a restoration project, only MOT work having been done

Spending several thousand quid on a Montego (with the possible exception of a petrol turbo) is only a good plan if you intend to keep the car, in my opinion. If it is a project that needs a respray he's probably not going to get his money back as a respray is not cheap...I may be wrong of course, but anything I spend on mine I class as maintenance and am pretty sure it hasn't increased the value of the car!

I think the old guy was very attached to it and didn't want to see it heading for the scrap yard.....but also had too high expectations of its subsequent value

Went to see M62 XCM again today and took it for a short "round the block"

It has had MOT work done but nothing more - even the work on the sills did not stretch to a full de-rust and paint, just the structural bits.
Sunroof leaks, seal on roof looks terrible
Driver's electric window sounds very "coming off runners"
          Wipers not parking quite correctly
Headlining intact but still mouldy; not quite enough excess around sunroof but not hanging.
Wing mirrors, heated rear window, column stalks, switches seemed ok
Slight crack in corner of front bumper
          Reasonably clean under bonnet

My short drive round the block, although hardly conclusive, did not reveal any issues.

It's recent motorway blast was apparently fine

Mathew said the car did feature in "Monzo" where even way back then his father was complaining of a leaking sunroof!

Looks as though a bit of anti-rust tlc would be beneficial!

Exactly!!! I'm sure a full & proper job on the sills would not have costed that much more in time and ££

Sunroof has been sealed up with mastic? If he removes the headliner he can find any leak. All seals leak even when new but drip into the tray so maybe that's his issue or the drains are blocked
