I've been keeping my family up to date with Montego progress and they are amazed at the advice, parts supply I am receiving from the Club - I quote my sister - "MMOC is a wonderful thing!"

It's always been a wealth of information but isn't as busy as it used to be with the dreaded Facebook that has killed many a club forum
All the info you'll ever need is here somewhere for a maestro or montego but many now can't be bothered to search for any issues they have and ask on any Facebook page, What's wrong with my car and they get 10 different answers with only one being correct. Dr diesel and sometimes myself try to keep this forum going though.
I much prefer forums but I'm old

I think you meant to say old and wise there, surely Jeff I'm always amazed that the failbook addicts are so reluctant to use the forum, where most of their questions are already answered, dash removal is a popular question on there & already answered by you on here many years ago...

They seem to think any members of a facebook group know everything and it's instant, many clubs are in the same boat with their clubs forums and some have now closed.
Trouble is many have no idea what they're talking about on facebook and won't wait for a forum member to answer as we're not instant or do a bit of their own research. They also seem to want a video of how to do things and I don't do that. Patrick with the blue MG Montego Turbo in Oxford has found plenty of info on here to help him and didn't need to ask a lot as one instance.
I also don't understand the reluctance of coming on here or any other forum at all. I'm on four forums and the past info on those is wonderful and normally tells me everything I need.
Old yes, wise........ not sure lol. I do have MG Montego Turbo owners email or message me from all over the world though asking what's wrong with their car and asking advise so maybe I have a little info in those

I think perhaps, on here, I should start a more "search" rather than "ask" approach too......but that said I'm still familiarising myself with the site. Also, as a novice, eager to learn mechanic as opposed to an expert one it is reassuring to ask you two who seem to know and be able to picture EVERYTHING!

It's fine, we were just sounding off about any Facebook group.
The only way to learn is ask when any issue pops up. I've been driving Montegos since the 1990s and have had countless mg montego turbos so you accumulate a bit of info. I'm rubbish at diesels, 1.3s and not that good at 1.6 engines and the good doctors a specialist. I don't have a montego any longer but I'm always happy help

As a recent owner of various Montegos i have found the forum a great source of info and as such am more of a receiver of info than a issuer from the site and Jeff (turbo) and Dr diesels' considered answers to questions from my point of view is beyond measure. Long may it continue. Being influenced by the marketing at the time and the Austin badge my 1st Montego was a "B" reg 1.6L in Champagne beige, a company car, so all the little foibles of the time were fixed by the local dealer. Like gear linkages falling off for instance. Driving from York to Glasgow using just 3rd and 4th gear was a challenge to say the least. The alternatives offered were a Cavalier or Sierra but already having a Cavalier went for the Montego. The next level up of management up were offered the MG efi version and i'll never forget how in your face it was with the bright white paintwork with red trimmings along with the deep front bumper and boot trim. My 1.6L left the Cavaliers and Sierras of the time standing and many more chose the Montego (Rover by this time) over said competition. I seem to remember the Michelin TD tyres had a tendency to roar when braking hard from a high speed......My next company Montego was a 1.6l again in 2 tone Diamond White and Hurricane Grey by which time a glass sunroof and a move away from the Bitter Chocolate interior to Flint made the interior a lot brighter. Keep on keeping on as they say!

I'm going to write an update for the next issue too. Things have moved on from the purely cosmetic and I'm keen to tell people of the fixes I'm making to ancillary items. A new photo also to show the "Countryman" decals!

Just the 5 now having reduced considerably; unfortunately (or fortunately for MMOC) the 4 sold vis 1 x lhd zephyr 4, 1 x lhd zodiac, 1 x ex Montgomery genuine police Zephyr 6 and 1 x zodiac estate have been replaced with Montegos. One of which was a local find vis an off the road for 12 years white 1.6LX auto H reg estate. I viewed anticipating it to be a rot box vis tailgate/arches but it was perfect body wise but in need of a respray; since completed. Plus the usual suspects for a car off the road so long vis brakes etc. I just need to sort the auto choke (i'm hoping stepper motor "O" rings) before it is MOT'd. SU Carburettors provided said "O" rings and a new mounting kit. "O" rings 1 x AUD 3602 + 1 x JZX 2029 + 1 x WZX1266 mounting kit. I must take some photos of my Montys and send to Monstro before the weather turns again! 3 of the Montegos are autos as in my current fleet list which i quite like but are a completely different driving experience to Borg Warner auto zephyrs/zodiacs.

I much prefer a laptop and a forum to research and I have to say the search engine here is exceptional mainly due to the raft of quality advise and walk throughs spanning a huge timescale, It is sad forums are often hit with "smash and grab" unknown visitors pulling snapshots of data via a search engine instead of actually stopping, saying hi and thanks for the free best practice advice that has likely saved them time and money but that's the new world we live in where help is expected not requested

Facebook is a bunfight of mis information and speculation, for some reason people are willing to post complete rhubarb on Facebook where the forum seems to demand a higher standard of answer.

I can only thank the Forum admin for maintaining the platform on what I imagine is an ever dwindling income and the constants who post and respond to newbies such as myself painfully jumping back into Austin Ownership, I agree with the OP its a wonderful thing!

I have to get an enclosed garage though, as I got sod all done on Sunday, first bloke pedaled up after about 20 minutes and talked my ear off for half an hour about his AR experiences as a tech who prepped them in the 80's followed up by a guy who pointed out the panels he personally pressed out at Cowley, Mainly the rear window lower panel, front scuttle panel and the inner of the door skeleton.

Third guy won the prize after telling me he owned loads of "Mondeos" like mine back in the day and loved then, didn't have the heart to correct him after failing to get a word in for 20 minutes, after that I called it a day and put it back in the garage.

Keep it up team MMOC there is a big silent following who still have a lot of love for the old sheds!

Unfortunately i didn't get to POL but interesting you say 2.0SLXi auto as according to "How Many Left" https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse..._rover_montego ( i know it's unreliable) there are only 2 of these 2L SLXi autos left in existence + 1 manual on SORN. One of the SLXi autos is licensed which i assume is mine and the other on SORN? The manual is on SORN. Mine is a white saloon......There are quite a few LXi's about; maybe it was one of those you saw? I haven't seen any photos of that event.....Interestingly HML show 18 LXi manuals on SORN and 1 licensed which i assume is my estate, can't be true surely? As i say HML not reliable. A lot of the so called SORNs are surely scrapped but not notified to the DVLA. Answers on a postcard......

Ahh, I was thinking estate....Your SLXi is a saloon. I should have read with more care!

However, I did speak to someone at PoL who had an estate which he said was virtually 'Countryman' spec but not badged as such. I'm sure he said SLXi ?
