However, I did speak to someone at PoL who had an estate which he said was virtually 'Countryman' spec but not badged as such. I'm sure he said SLXi ?

No worries, curious though. My catalogue collection has a gap between December 1990 and publication 4312 in 1992 so i can't be certain Rover did or didn't do an SLXi estate. That model of estate isn't mentioned in 1990 or 1992. Looking at the 1992 catalogue the SLXi saloon is shown but not an SLXi estate and in my 1993 "estates only" catalogue the SLXi saloon disappears with just LXi offered in estate form along with the Clubman and Countryman versions of petrol and diesel and DLX. Had they stopped production of saloons by then? Someone may know. Looking at the Countryman spec against the SLXi saloon spec the Countryman just edges it with a leather steering wheel, 7 seats (obviously not in the saloon anyway), body colour front spoiler, self levelling rear suspension and wood veneer door inserts however the SLXi saloon has remote boot release, body colour boot spoiler and red boot appliqué. I've looked at some Youtubes of POL 2026 but just fleeting glimpses of Montegos except the 1.2 million mile one - Dr Diesel? which got more of a reception.

I have to get an enclosed garage though, as I got sod all done on Sunday, first bloke pedaled up after about 20 minutes and talked my ear off for half an hour about his AR experiences as a tech who prepped them in the 80's followed up by a guy who pointed out the panels he personally pressed out at Cowley, Mainly the rear window lower panel, front scuttle panel and the inner of the door skeleton.

Third guy won the prize after telling me he owned loads of "Mondeos" like mine back in the day and loved then, didn't have the heart to correct him after failing to get a word in for 20 minutes, after that I called it a day and put it back in the garage.

Keep it up team MMOC there is a big silent following who still have a lot of love for the old sheds!

Unfortunately i didn't get to POL but interesting you say 2.0SLXi auto as according to "How Many Left" https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse..._rover_montego ( i know it's unreliable) there are only 2 of these 2L SLXi autos left in existence + 1 manual on SORN. One of the SLXi autos is licensed which i assume is mine and the other on SORN? The manual is on SORN. Mine is a white saloon......There are quite a few LXi's about; maybe it was one of those you saw? I haven't seen any photos of that event.....Interestingly HML show 18 LXi manuals on SORN and 1 licensed which i assume is my estate, can't be true surely? As i say HML not reliable. A lot of the so called SORNs are surely scrapped but not notified to the DVLA. Answers on a postcard......

I have worked in the motor trade all my life and have scrapped many thousands of PX that aren't worth sending to auction, At best we transfer into the trade but we never bother informing DVLA we have scrapped it, only time we ever did was when the scrappage scheme was about and we had to as part of the government agreement to get the grant money.

If "How man left" are basing stats on what has been marked scrapped or not them their numbers will be well out but I'm sure they know this , what they are doing about it , if anything I have no idea.

Having gone back to my Rover publications and finding a later version (Publication 4327 dated 1992) to check summat else i notice in the small print there were/are SLXi estates so you remembered correctly - his SLXi estate car is almost Countryman spec as detailed in a previous post. The 7 seat and self levelling suspension were options on the SLXi estate but standard on the Countryman. The SLXi estate didn't have the leather steering wheel as per the Countryman plus a few other bits and bobs on the trim were different between the two. Happy to set the record straight.
