And interesting about the float chamber. I may seek some help from my Vinny in checking that.

Ooh that's not happened before. This is the wiring diagram for the fuel ecu, not sure if it's in the instructions. Once the fast check is plugged in to the wiring harness from the drop down panel, switch on ignition, ignition, throttle and coil lights should light up. If not then it's possibly either no power to the ecu or bad earth. Power to ecu is through pin 5 (white wire) of the connecter and fuse, earth is pin 2 so check both. As someone seems to have bypassed the fuel cut off switch i would also have a check round that area as the ECU may also have been bypassed. The car might just run straight off the fuel pump on choke, just an idea as you say it's running rich and conks out.
As said before it a little difficult to diagnose when not there and possibly a bodged rewire somewhere. Have a check and see how that goes

Hi Arthur. Sorry for my slow response. I’ve thankfully secured an ADU8479 from Spain so the car should be basically now back to factory spec. With Jeff’s guidance I’m now going to look at the float chamber and we suspect a stuck float or one which is taking on fuel. Matthew
