Yet more on this one! Having found the time and a rain shower free spell, I fitted the EEP0170.....
It's all progress - On the driver's side the courtesy light comes on when the door opens and the delay function operates. However, on the passenger side , no light when the door opens. I pulled the light out again from the headlining, all seemed fine to me. I unscrewed the "button" in the A pillar, pulled the connection apart and put it back together again. Still no courtesy light when door opens.

      Any ideas?

At least the driver's side, the most important side, works

If you take the button out, then short the purple/white wire to a clean earth the light should come on, if it doesn't then there is a broken wire between button and delay unit, if it does come on then it is either the buttob switch or fixing screw corroded...

........the passenger door opening does though bring on the driver's side courtesy light, I noticed at 22:00 when giving my wife the privilege of a ride home in the Montego
Earlier, I had only taken note of the light above the door I was opening

So, in summary, the passenger side courtesy light fails to operate when either door opens, but the driver's side light is operated by either door.

I'm a novice, I can't quite picture things.....does this shed any more light? No pun intended

Yoi have either a faulty courtesy light, or faulty wiring to the light from the switch. You could try swopping the courtesy lights back over and that'll cut one out of the things to look at

Ok Jeff, but I did a swap early on having written this and being advised to do so....

"Wired up as you told me......tested. The passenger side illuminated permanently but when switched to the door open/close position, nothing.
The driver's side won't even come on permanently."

Swapping the lights got both to work in the permanently on position.

Switch on the light itself faulty? I think I'd have noticed already but I'll take another look....
Broken wiring to switch?.......it can wait until the headlining comes out
