My son bought this last year and now have a little time to work on it. Long time off the road but not in bad condition, didn't pay a lot for the car so wasn't expecting too much. First thing is to get the car running as it hadn't been for many years. The car was overfuelling and causing vapour lock. The petrol tank return was blocked so I used my last spare tank and that we put on the car Saturday. Still not starting and no fuel getting through even after putting 3 gallons in. So today I rerouted the supply, a bodge but it works. Now have fuel coming in. Next thing after checking the timing as the car back fired, the cam was 4 teeth out, never seen that much before. As we were going to change the belt and water pump anyway, I removed them but as always a bolt snapped. Lucky me I managed to remove the broken stud, not often that happens

Managed to locate two more seals so they're on the way aswell. All ready now to carry on working on this in the morning and hopefully getting it running. Will also be searching for any history on the car as it came only with an old logbook.

Well that killed it, waterpump was damaged so having to send it back so no progress. On another note, logbook found but the yellow part was missing, checked on dvla website but no history of being scrapped, no MOT history and untaxed since 2006. My son has now applied for the logbook and will see what happens. Could be interesting as a new logbook was issued in 2017 and he only has the older one from 2006. We shall see how this pans out

Log book arrived so not been scrapped so thats another thing done. Should be able to continue next month and hoping the 4 teeth out on the cambelt isn't a big deal, don't really want to remove the head if i can help it

More done yesterday, Water pump and new timing belt on, Set up the alternator adjustment bracket, bit rare that. all timed up but fuel pump wouldn't suck a leaf up so useless, I have found a NOS one so will fit that once it gets here. Did wonder if it was any good as its a generic one so not enough power. Noted that the front frame has extra things on it, not seen that before and new exhaust is waiting to go on

Could the brackets on the subframe be from a sump gears possibly ex police car.
Some maestro vans had sump guards but carnt remember what they look like , or how they fitted.
Would be interesting if you could find the car's history.

Don't know Alan, the car has been off the road for many years so finding the history would be very hit and miss. Last proper owner bought it in 2003. Nothing comes up on the cars MOT history so it's not been on the road for many years

They look very like the sump guards, bracket slides into one hole and one bolt holds it I think.. this is one half of the set, looks very like yours https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-Ma...4AAOSwYlJW6bqO

There is a listing in the rover accessories catalogue from 97 ,for the maestro
van for a sump guard. So a rare item now .

On a good note, the proper fuel pump turned up today, only a few days late. Lucas FDB704/Bosch 0580464055 with correct connections so will have to rewire the ends. Hoping that this will sort the rubbish fuel pump this time

Well that didn't go to plan. Put the new fuel pump on and its finally pumping fuel up but it wasn't getting to the bores. I poured a little petrol down the bores and the car started up so that's a good thing. Having to assume the injectors were at fault so I removed them, unfortunately 2 collapse and the tips fell into the inlet manifold
