        • More done today, door and bonnet decals on, 3 door cards on, now has brakes, and we were going great guns. Unfortunately the car started to miss a bit so Chris removed the sparkplugs but one destroyed the threads on its way out, so that to sort, and will have to replace the exhaust downpipe as its a little too long so it's banging on the front subframe when the cars moving

                • Spark plug problem now sorted, helicoiled, head on and now running. Good job we removed the head as it had a cheap 2 lt carb gasket on it and no thermostat. I reved the nuts out of it and the spark plug held firm so very pleased. Note to self, helicoil with the the head on in future then take it off. Oil change next and sort the hot start problem we now have that we didn't have before due to no thermostat

                  • Banging exhaust now fixed, had to replace the front pipe so that was fun, not.,only one bolt snapped so that to drill out and replace, Engine now serviced and now booked in for welding the boot floor Thursday. Starts on the button but the auto choke is staying out to long now, so that to sort soon as its causing the car to run very rich after start up but will hopefully get that done after welding. Never noticed that with no thermostat in it but saying that the car did start missing a little when the plugs needed to be cleaned and they were caked in soot, will be using my carb fueling fast check to check if all is working correctly, so hopefully an easy fix. Then a tune up as it needs it. Found two problems, no thermostat and the fuel management ecu was faulty. So changed both

                    • Well that was an eventful morning taking it to be welded up. Lost the car keys on a garage forecourt but luckily found them later underneath a car filling up at the pumps. Car overheated due to a brand new faulty thermostat so i removed that and also bridged the cooling fan, fuel trap elbow pipe snapped in half so with the car running on choke with no thermostat and the elbow pipe knackered the tick over was very rough so i upped the tickover to 1500 revs, luckily still got it to the welders. Not a good morning at all. On a good note, the welder loves the car

                      • Well thats the welding done, but the car is playing up. Fuel pump is playing up now as is the temperature gauge again going up the high temperature with a cool engine, Will be changing the coolant thermistor next as thats possibly the problem, and the pump will need a belt of my hammer

                        • Car now picked up and back in my sons garage. Wouldn't start or tick over and is constantly flooding to start, then nothing from the fuel pump so I changed that, and adjusted few other things just to get it going. Runs really rough atm but im sure some of it is down to the temperature gauge problem. I've stripped the carb down and it had a little bit of crap in it, and the main jet housing was completely siezed, so cleaned all that out, just waiting for replacement O rings to arrive before putting the carb back on. Then see how that goes.

                          • Put the carb back on today, cleaned off and re-check the spark plug gaps, plugged in the auto choke and started very easily. Ran for a little while then started to backfire when revved. Changed the ignition ecu and ran better, unplugged the auto choke to see it that's staying on and it isn't, and not over fuelling to excess now, changed the distributor cap and no difference. Spotted a small oil leak in the cam cover, don't know why as I thought id fixed that 5 years ago so i have ordered a tube of Reinzoplast, that should cure that and I think the manifold gasket has a little leak so that to look at next as I noticed a bubble escaping. Carb balance has no leaks so its not that. Still having problems with the temp gauge but I do have another turbo fuel ecu to put on it and another lucas rotor arm just in case. Car does start but not easily when hot, so will also change the vent valve or blank it off. It does run but rough but we are getting there as it runs much better than when we picked it up. As the engine is hot then will re-start efforts tomorrow. The one thing that puzzles me is that I know I put a grub screw in the rotor arm 5 years ago as the treads were cross threaded but when I changed the distributor cap it wasn't there, no idea what happened to that. All these problems are new so it seems leaving the car for 15 months doesn't do it any good. More work in progress

                            • Cam cover removed and both manifolds and the carb, Cover was leaking in the centre and I didn't touch that 5 years ago so will sort that. NOS Lucas rotor arm now on after I filed the shaft as it was too tight, also made up a screw to hold it in and put in new oil seals I have in my spares, Ive also replaced the carb gaskets as we didn't do that before because they looked ok but this time i'm making sure no more air leaks, also replaced the vent valve as that maybe faulty. Just waiting for the sealant to arrive next week

                              • Had a couple of hours spare so put all back together. Just have to wait for the sealant to harden overnight. Also found the radio adapter I bought many years ago for a modern radio etc that's going in the car
