I've had another look at the bores and none are scratched or anything like that and all are smooth , I have left a small puddle or wd40 in all bores just to make sure though, all drained about the same so I'm guessing the piston rings are ok. I used to know this sort of basic stuff but seem to be searching for answers as it's been a long time. I'm sure I will get there in the end but it's a little worrying

I guess you'll have spun the vales around to make sure they aren't bent? A dab of paint, some graphite from a pencil (or engineers blue if you are posh) on the valve seat should show up even the slightest bend..only other thing would be a sneaky crack in the head, but I think you'd have seen it if there was one. Very annoying when you are getting so close!

Yeah it is, I've cleaned up the valves and will test what I can hopefully later in the week. Will put two two at the end in a drill etc. I could also lap the valves in before having the head skimmed to check if all's well there

Was a warped head on that quarter of it, my own fault for not getting it skimmed when I had to replace the headgasket the first time. Mind you I didn't know I would have many more problems with it at the time, oh well it's happened now. Valves lapped in and all put together now with new oil and stem seals and ready to go back on. Sorting the snapped bolt on the inlet next time and cleaning the injectors. I'm hoping this will finally fix the issue but might still need to borrow an efi fuel ecu so I know that's the problems with the temp gauge as i can't find any here atm

Heads back in as are all the other parts. As my last manifold gasket in the set was a turbo one I've ordered one off Sean so once that's arrived I can carry on

All back together, started up with no smoke out the back, good result there then. Now I have another issue in the radiator fan didn't kick in when it got warm. Tested the fan and thats working then tested the sensor by bridging the wires and that didn't make it work so possibly a wiring issue, the earth is in the same place as the fuel pump earth so that to look at, it worked before so not understanding why it doesn't work now atm till have a good look at it , also the oil light didn't come on and that worked before too from momory.
On a good note the temp gauge didn't go straight to 3/4 but only gradually as the engine warmed up, no idea atm if that's permanent or not yet.

Almost there, electrical faults sound pretty minor anyway, which is a change from some of the other surprises along the way!

                    • As i can't do anything else to my Zodiac or my wife's zodiac I started back on this project.
Sorting out the decent tyres for the car and started it up, got the fan running again so that's one thing done, time fly's and haven't looked at the car since April

                              • Starts ok now and moved it to have the bottoms of the sills and nearside box section sorted as I don't have the time atm and the welding needed is out of my skill set.
